Ever find yourself glued to your phone, endlessly scrolling through Social media, or bingeing on Netflix for hours? While it feels good in the moment, those quick dopamine hits from sitting around can actually mess with you mentally reducing your motivation, energy levels, increasing stress and anxiety, and completely taking your attention away from your goals. Before you know it, you’re stuck in a rut, feeling tired and unproductive. But don’t worry—by changing the way you think, you can take control, boost your mood, and start living a life that’s full of excitement and purpose. Curious to know how? Let’s get into it.
It all begins with your mindset. To achieve success in anything long term it begins with having the right mindset.
So, with everyone that’s a part of the One True North Coaching family this is our culture, we want you to have the right mindset to get there and to achieve results we believe it’s absolutely vital.
But, it’s easy enough for us to tell you that you need the right mindset to be successful but how do you actually adopt it?
How do you train your mind to think this way?
To get into the right mindset to achieve your goals, you need to start by acknowledging the activities and distractions that currently consume your time but aren’t contributing to your progress.
These might be things that feel urgent or enjoyable in the moment but don’t align with your long-term goals.
Imagine someone who has already achieved the goal you aspire to reach.
This person’s daily actions and priorities are likely very different from yours right now. They are focused on activities that directly propel them towards their goal, whether it’s learning, practising, networking, or strategising.
And just before we look at these points I want you to think and to not to be too hard on yourself, all of these points will come with time, this will come because your coach will show you how to get there if you’re not currently on the right track.
So most likely these people at your goal:
- they are probably going to bed at a reasonable time and getting good sleep (we can’t focus, train or progress if we don’t prioritise this)
- they are not getting distracted by unnecessary things that they don’t benefit from. (we can’t learn and progress if we prioritise things that are unnecessary.)
- They are probably prioritising their health and not harming their body (e.g not going out for drinks, smoking, emotional eating etc.)
- they are not afraid of failure instead think of it as progress (we can’t progress if we quit every time we fail, it’s part of learning)
- Most likely they are always wanting to learn to get ahead and progress (not shying away from new challenges, not addicted to sedentary dopamine hits)
Once you start to understand that you need to have the mindset and that you’re capable of having that mindset, this will make it much easier for you to become the best version of yourself, this is the first step to get there, alleviating all of your distractions.
Sadly a lot of us tend to follow the crowd, taking advice from friends, family and people that aren’t where we want to be, we copy and do whatever people we’re surrounded by are doing. There are many habits that waste our time and distract us. Not only do they affect us mentally making us feel guilt, stress and anxiety, they take us away from achieving things we actually want.
Here’s a few examples:
- Watching TV (Netflix etc)
- Going out for drinks (night clubs, bars, pubs)
- Excessive social media use
- Procrastination
- Gossiping
- Overplanning without action
- Indecisiveness
- Overthinking
- Over consumption of news/media
And a lot of these that i’ve just mentioned are addictions or potentially even ADHD symptoms, they are everyday priorities to a lot of people and they don’t even think about it. But, whether it’s you or someone else – if you’re doing any of these things where would you be in 6-12 months? Or even 5-10 years?
If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll stay where you are. But if you’re willing to learn and try new ways, you can progress. You must learn how to take control, even if it’s challenging and uncomfortable at first, because the discomfort of staying the same will eventually far surpass the discomfort of change.
So if we are to get out of these habits I just mentioned you need to be self aware, something we will help you with through your program but it’s one massive factor on why our clients have such great success.
We teach you a way that you will only look at this new way of living and embrace it until it becomes a habit.
Sometimes you have to leave people behind and/or create boundaries if they don’t bring any value to your life and they are only there to distract you and keep the“distracted OR unhealthy” version of you around, the version of you that keeps doing “unnecessary” things that don’t actually matter.
So, with that said I want to just cover the 5 points below to help you understand what you will adopt throughout your program:
These are simple principles and if you adopt them you will achieve great success in anything you do.
- Number 1. Resilience (Keep going until the outcome happens, don’t shy away from failure – this is the key!)
- Number 2. Openness to learning (Don’t just assume you know everything) this is part of “the success mindset”
- Number 3. Doing the Uncomfortable – you will learn to stop avoiding things that you’re uncomfortable doing, this is change, this is progress, this is you being open to learning.
Avoiding things that are uncomfortable will never allow you to see a different perspective. If you think about someone successful that you admire, it’s most likely they do a lot of things you couldn’t imagine doing, like you would need to be forced or pushed to do those things. This is the first step for someone who has a fixed mindset.
When you start doing the uncomfortable things your life will become better and everything gets easier.
- Number 4. Discipline – you will stop copying the crowd (unhealthy habits) – you’ll stop saying yes to things that push you away from your goals and waste so much of your valuable time.
- And finally, number 5. Consistency – you won’t quit because you’re not seeing progress, most of the time we can’t actually see “Progress” but it’s happening. I have numerous examples of this, and there’s so many you have if you really think about it.
All of these principles are about output and efficiency.
People tend to want everything easily nowadays, people want to get things immediately (instant gratification). This is the beauty of it and you’ll soon have that perception if you don’t already. It is the mindset that sets you apart from the rest, this is what will make you the best version of yourself, this is what gets results.
Not facing the truth and avoiding reality is what holds a lot of people back. And when that happens it causes a lot of people to
- Not even begin (ignore/avoid the obvious – also one of the most common causes of depression)
- They quit
- They distract themselves and nothing gets better and they are unhappy with their life
- They miss out on numerous opportunities “that they really want” but because of the way they’re living their life they avoid them.
- They think it’s not going to work and most likely it won’t ( because they’ve already envisioned it, they’ve quit on themselves)
And on that last point right there, many people have limiting beliefs and a fixed mindset, they don’t believe they can achieve something, they don’t believe in themselves, they don’t ask for help… and they are stuck because of that.
Recognising this is crucial.
And that’s because you need to be the first person to believe in anything you do.
So, to help you we’re going to guide you through on how to:
– build strong habits and increase your productivity levels
– improve your focus and eliminate any distractions that don’t serve you well
– build actual discipline and consistency
You’ll gain a better understanding of yourself, what you’re actually capable of doing, and get all the right beliefs and tools you need to be your best version. This will happen over 1-on-1 interactions with your coach, as well as the content over on the platform.
